In
this note you will find some of the Biblical
reasons why we worship God. These
useful Biblical verses can be highlighting
in your Bible for future reference.
Worship is according to biblical command;
we are to go along with.
Why do we worship
God?
“You shall worship the
Lord you God, and Him only you shall serve.”
Matthew 4:10b
More
exactly than earthly power, Jesus establishes
whole worship of God and His calling of
humble obedience and suffering.
How should we worship God?
“But
the hour is coming, and now is, when the
true worshippers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth; for the
Father is seeking such to worship Him.
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him
must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:23-24 |

What importance is not where one worships, but the
attitude of heart and mind. True worship is
not just at regular Sunday service or a form (outward
appearance or fashion), but spiritual reality, which
is in harmony with the nature of God, who Himself
is Spirit. Worship must also be in truth that
is clear and honest. |

Why do we stand to
sing?
“Then the Levites…stood up
to praise the Lord God of Israel with
voices loud and high.” 2
Chronicles 20:19
Why do we clap out
hands?
“Oh, clap your hand, all
you peoples! Shout to God with the
voice of triumph!” Psalm
47:1
Why do we lift our
hands?
"Lift up your hands
in sanctuary, and bless the Lord.”
Psalm 134:2
Uplifted hands are an important part of
both Jewish and Christian worship.
As with the lifting up of hands can also
be used for prayer as well, which was usual
among the Jews. These holy hands were
lifted and spread out toward haven as a
posture of surrender. 1
Timothy 2:8 |

Why do we sing choruses
or songs?
“And do not
be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation
(leads to wild living),
but be filled with the Spirit, speaking
to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing and making melody (tune)
in your heart to the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:18-19
In
these verses mean to be continually filled
with the Holy Spirit, and to overflow with
a continual song of praise and thanksgiving
to keep up a Spirit-filled flow in your
life. Psalms are scriptural
lyrics (poems) in song, hymns are
humanly inspired lyrics in songs and
spiritual songs are spontaneous rhythmic
lyrics given by the Holy Spirit in one’s
language or in “tongues” see 1
Corinthians 14:15.
Songwriters are inspired by the Spirit of
God to write spiritual songs based on a
portion of scripture, commonly known as
choruses. |

Why do we speak and sing in tongues?
“For if I pray in
a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding
(mind) is unfruitful. What is it conclusion
(finish) then? I will pray with the spirit,
and I will also pray with the understanding (mind).
I will sing with the spirit, and I will also
sing with the understanding (mind).”
1 Corinthians 14:14-15
Make
use of both spiritual and natural language in worship
and devotion. There is no approach of silliness,
madness or emotionalism of any kind. It is
biblical correct to practice using of spiritual
language (tongues) as a private devotional discipline
will result in a holy self-edification (spiritual
build-up). For Apostle Paul, praying and singing,
both in tongues and in everyday language, were normal
and regular parts of prayer and praise.
Why are musical instruments
a part of the worship service?
“Praise
Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise
Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the
timbrel
and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments
and flutes (pipes)! Praise Him on
the sounding cymbals; praise Him with the clashing
(resounding) cymbals!”
Psalm 150:3-5
These verses show us on how to worship with some
kind of instruments, this list is not completed
in everything but only shows how creative our praise
is to be. We may use any instrument you like
to worship God. |

Why
does the whole church (congregation) pray at once
for specific needs?
“So when they heard that, they raised (lifted
up) their voice to God with one accord….”
Acts
4:24a
Why
do we dance in service or fellowship?
“Let
them praise His name with the dance…Praise
Him with the timbrel and dance…”
Psalm
149:3a & 150:4a “So he (a lame
man who was just healed instantly),
leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple
with them–walking, leaping, and praising
God.”
Acts 3:8b
“Whom
having not seen you love. Though now you do
not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with
joy inexpressible (with unspeakable joy)
and full of glory.”
1 Peter 1:8b
Plainly,
in the Greek word: ‘rejoice’ means ‘to jump or leap
for joy.’
Finally, my brethren
if you have God’s gift of life-breath, you should
worship and praise Him. Psalm
150:6 Hallelujah! |
