In My Place
Isaiah 53 v 1 - 12 (Message)

But the fact is, it was our pains He (Jesus) carried - our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us 53 v 4.
Jesus died on the cross for our sake. He died in our place. He was punished in our place. He did everything because of us. Jesus went through all the suffering and pain so that we can come to Him with all or suffering and pain. He wants to carry it in our place.

SUFFERED:
He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand
53 v 3.
As Christians we must fight every form of suffering in this world. We can't accept it. We must make sure that we are not the reason of any suffering. Jesus bore the suffering on the cross and we as His body in this world must help the people who suffer because of injustice in this world.

PAIN:
But the fact is, it was our pains He carried
53 v 4.
Out of suffering comes pain. People experience alot of pain deep inside of them. Pain caused by rejection, injustice, racism, sexism and poverty. Jesus suffered pain on the cross so that His church would be able to help people who suffer pain.

SINS:
But it was our sins that did that to Him that ripped and tore and crushed Him - our sins! God has piled all our sins, everything we've done wrong, on Him. The plan was that He gave Himself as an offering for sin so that He'd see life come from it - life, life and more life. He Himself carries the burden of their sins
53 v 5a, 6, 10, 11.
Sin is the number one enemy of man. Sin has caused more pain in human lives that any war, cancer or AIDS could do in the past. As church we must fight every form of sin. As church we must never compromise with sin. Sin caused Jesus death on the cross and that is why we can't make jokes out of sin. We must preach and work against sin in this world.

PUNISHMENT:
He took the punishment and that made us whole
53 v 5b.
Jesus paid the full price for our sin on the cross of Calvary. He cried out “tetelestai”. This Greek word means “Debt has been paid”. Jesus paid in full for our sin: we are made fit for God by the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus (Heb. 10 v 10). We don't need to atone anything for our sin. Jesus already atoned for our sin. We must preach this message: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst 1 Tim. 1 v 15. There is no condemnation for people who are in Christ Jesus Rom. 8 v 1. We must live a thankful life, free of sin.

SICKNESS:
Through His bruises we get healed
53 v 5c.
Jesus died for our sin but also for our sickness. As church we must not accept sickness. We must fight it with all the power Jesus had given us. We have to pray for the sick: Are you sick? Call the church leader together to pray and anoint you with oil in the name of the Master. Believing prayer will heal you and Jesus will put you on your feet Jam. 5 v 14, 15.

TORTURED:
He was beaten, He was tortured but He didn't say a word. Like lamb taken to be slaughtered and like a sheep being sheared, He took it all in silence
53 v 7.
In the film “The Passion of the Christ”, we again realised the terrible torture Jesus went through before and during the crucifixion. The world was shocked by this film. Torturing is one of the things that is still going on throughout the world. It makes man one of the cruellest creatures on planet earth. As church we have to fight any form of torturing. We must never take part in any form of torturing going on in this world.

DEATH:
Therefore I'll reward Him extravagantly - the best of everything, the highest honours - Because He looked death in the face and didn't flinch
53 v 12.
Jesus died so that we could live. It is very important that we will respect life. We must fight anything that endangers any form of life. God is a God of life and not death. The church can never approve to abortion or any form of taking the lives of people. Love life.
